Cross Country

Welcome to the CDTCA Running Panthers webpage!

We welcome children from 4th-8th grade (younger with permission) to run cross country and join the friendly community of runners that constitutes the North Area Catholic Schools Cross Country League. We begin training in late July and open our season with the annual St. Sebastian invitational the third week of August. Over the course of the season, which runs from August to mid-October, students may participate in upwards of eight to ten meets usually running against 3-4 teams per meet. They also participate in at least three major invitationals, which are much larger meets involving 10-15 schools, most located in the Northern suburbs. Invitationals are a way to showcase individual schools and runners with both team and individual awards. They also strengthen our connections as a community that loves to run and believes in it as a sport for life for all kids, of all shapes, sizes, and abilities.

Our home course is at Hartwood Acres which is also where we practice. Our away meets take us to many beautiful areas north of Pittsburgh: Pine Park, North Park, and the campus of LaRoche College, to name a few. The final race of the season takes place at Cooper Lake in Slippery Rock with the League Championship.
Our season ends just in time for children to participate, in great condition, in their other favorite fall and winter sports. Many participate in sports concurrently with Cross Country. Cross Country is a flexible, welcoming, and exciting fall sports option for all children.
